The Funky Miracle team, can’t wait to welcome you to the BVI
Set sail with Robin and Sophie on an unforgettable vacation that will leave you refreshed, with bellies full of good food and hearts full of fond memories.
Robin grew up fishing and doing water sports on the rivers in the Western Cape, South Africa. He started his sailing career in 2018 when he sold his truck to pay for his Yacht master ocean qualification. He learned to sail in the difficult waters around Cape Town over the winter, including deliveries to Mozambique and Madagascar. He did a 3 month delivery as a crew of 2 from Cape town to Malta, Stopping at the small island of St Helena. He then did a season as a Charter captain in Croatia and Montenegro, where he met Sophie. They then continued to sail Croatia on a small trimaran. During Covid he trained as an electrician to build his engineering skills and widen his maintenance skills as a captain. He discovered a passion for renewable energy and is always thinking about how to make the chartering industry more sustainable! Robin’s calm, friendly and easy going demeanour is infectious and gives guests the space to enjoy their holidays!
Sophie has always been part of the sailing world since living on a 42 ft catamaran at 8 years old with the rest of her family, traveling from Greece to the Caribbean, the pacific and eventually New Zealand over 4 years. She has always loved exploring new places, traveling South East Asia and Australia at 19 years old and moving to Gambia in West Africa for 6 months during her year abroad at uni. She then did 3 seasons working as a host on sailing holidays in Croatia, Montenegro and Italy where she discovered her passion for creating epic experiences for people on the water. She has always had a passion for cooking from growing up in a large family and is influenced by the different cultures she has lived in. She loves creating new and exciting vegan and vegetarian dishes (where you can’t tell the difference!) but always learning from Robins skills and experience with cooking fish and meat. She completed a cookery course with The Avenue Cookery School in London to further develop her skills. She loves making different dishes with her own twist on them. Her favorite dish to make at the moment is Salmon with jerk sauce served with coconut rice, mango salsa and a ginger and lime coleslaw.
